April is still a time full of cinema offerings, with two new releases leading the way this week. For fans of genre films, Abigail hits theaters on Thursday the 18th, directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett (known for Scream) and starring Melissa Barrera.

The independent company A24 presents Civil war, a film by Alex Garland that is considered its strongest bet to date. Let’s take a look at the new titles hitting the big screen!

After their success with Ready or Not and the recent Scream installments, directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett are back with Abigail, a contemporary take on the 1936 vampire film Dracula’s Daughter. The story revolves around a kidnapped 12-year-old girl guarded by criminals, who soon discover a creature that leads to chaos.

The cast of Abigail includes Alisha Weir in a lead role, with Melissa Barrera playing the main ‘final girl’. The film also features Giancarlo Esposito, Kathryn Newton, Angus Cloud, and Dan Stevens.

Civil war, by Alex Garland, is a dystopian thriller set in the near future in the United States, depicting a civil war outbreak. The film follows a team of journalists as they navigate the country in search of an interview with the president before rebels take over the White House. The star-studded cast includes Kirsten Dunst, Jesse Plemons, Nick Offerman, Wagner Moura, Cailee Spaeny, and Karl Glusman, among others.

A lucky cat is a new animated family comedy that tells the story of a cat who learns lessons after wasting his nine lives. Directed by Christopher Jenkins and Mark Koetsier, the film follows the cat as he reincarnates into various animals, teaching him valuable life lessons along the way.

Lastly, the Italian romantic comedy It’s never too late to love follows the story of Astolfo, a retired professor who finds love in an unexpected place. Directed by Gianni Di Gregorio, the film explores themes of love and second chances in life.
