Update on Tornado Damage and Rescue Efforts in Omaha Given by City Officials

Omaha’s police and fire departments are providing updates after a severe tornado ripped through the city, causing extensive damage in Elkhorn, Bennington, Waterloo, and Blair. A command center and reunification center have been set up in Elkhorn to assist those affected, with plans in place to establish an emergency shelter. Fire department crews are preparing to search impacted neighborhoods for possible victims trapped in homes. While volunteers are eager to help, it’s crucial for them to stay away until authorities organize volunteer efforts due to safety hazards. Only two minor injuries have been reported so far, and additional resources are being brought in to assist with disaster relief efforts.
