US finds evidence of human rights violations by 5 Israeli security units prior to Gaza war

The US State Department has found that five Israeli security units committed human rights violations before the conflict with Hamas in Gaza, potentially leading to restrictions on military aid for one unit. Deputy spokesperson Vedant Patel stated that four units have addressed the violations. Discussions with Israel on the remaining unit, believed to be Netzah Yehuda Battalion, are ongoing. Under the Leahy Law, the US can’t aid units involved in human rights abuses unless remedial actions are taken. Secretary of State Blinken emphasized a deliberate approach to such determinations, with Patel denying special treatment for Israel in the process.
