US official believes Putin did not give order to kill Russian opposition leader Navalny

U.S. intelligence officials believe Russian President Vladimir Putin did not directly order the death of imprisoned opposition leader Alexei Navalny. While they hold Putin responsible for Navalny’s death due to harsh conditions, there is no evidence suggesting Putin was aware of the timing or gave a direct order. President Joe Biden previously stated that Navalny’s death was a result of Putin’s actions. Navalny, a prominent opposition figure, died in February while serving a sentence. Russian officials claim he died of natural causes and deny involvement in his poisoning or death. Putin was reelected a month after Navalny’s death.
