USC Graduation Marred by Tight Security and Canceled Valedictorian Receives Standing Ovation

The USC Galen Center erupted with applause as Muslim valedictorian Asna Tabassum accepted her diploma after her speech was canceled due to pro-Palestinian views. The biomedical engineering class stood up in support, while representatives from USC mentioned the event running smoothly. USC President Carol Folt canceled Tabassum’s speech due to threats over her Instagram link to a pro-Palestinian site. The tension led to the cancellation of the main commencement ceremony, causing disappointment among thousands. Despite the challenges, various ceremonies took place with cheers and encouragements for graduates. The alternative graduation party offered some compensation for the loss of the main ceremony.
