UT-Austin police detain pro-Palestine demonstrators

Law enforcement officers removed at least 10 protesters at the University of Texas at Austin supporting Palestine during the Israel-Hamas conflict. The students demanded divestment in companies supplying Israel with weapons. More than 200 students gathered for the protest. Texas DPS officers were present, arresting students for potential criminal trespass charges. Similar protests occurred at the University of Texas at Dallas. The ongoing violence in the Middle East led to protests on campuses across the U.S., prompting police action at Columbia University. Texas universities face challenges in balancing free speech while addressing the Israel-Palestine conflict. Governor Abbott issued an executive order on free speech policies.
