Venezuelan Social Activist Arrested for Attempted Assassination, According to Prosecutor’s Office

On Monday, social activist and journalist Carlos Julio Rojas was arrested in Caracas, according to Attorney General Tarek William Saab.

Saab mentioned that Rojas had an arrest warrant for his alleged involvement in an assassination attempt against Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro. The attempt was said to have taken place in the center of the capital on March 25, the day of Maduro’s registration as a presidential candidate.

Saab stated that he will provide an update on the investigation on Tuesday at noon.

Carlos Julio Rojas reported on his social media account that he was kidnapped by several men dressed in black.

CNN is currently attempting to reach out to the Venezuelan Attorney General’s Office and Rojas’ legal team, who are known for their work defending detained opponents.
