Video Features 2023 Interview with Accused Georgia Shooter and Dad

Recently released bodycam footage from 2023 depicts the interrogation of a teenager accused of a tragic shooting at Apalachee High School in Georgia, which resulted in the deaths of four individuals. The recording shows the young suspect, Colt Gray, alongside his father, Colin Gray, being questioned by authorities on their front porch.

The police interview took place in May 2023, over a year before the shooting incident. This interrogation was initiated following threats made by Colt Gray on social media, in which he allegedly stated intentions to “shoot up” a nearby middle school. During the session, captured on the deputy’s body camera, the teen firmly denied making such threats, claiming, “I would never say something like that.”

Colin Gray, present during the interview, communicated that his son had a proper understanding of firearms. “He knows the seriousness of weapons and what they can do and how to use them and not use them,” Colin remarked. Ultimately, the investigation into the threats was closed due to insufficient evidence.

Subsequent events took a concerning turn a few months later. In December 2023, Colin Gray reportedly gifted Colt an AR-style rifle as a Christmas present. Authorities, including police and federal investigators, are examining whether this firearm was involved in the subsequent shooting.

As a result of these events, both Colt and Colin Gray now face severe criminal charges. Colt has been charged with four counts of murder, and further charges may arise as the investigation continues. The following day, Colin Gray was arrested and faced multiple charges, including two counts of second-degree murder, four counts of involuntary manslaughter, and eight counts of child cruelty.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s director, Chris Hosey, addressed the media regarding these accusations, stating that the charges against Colin arise from his knowledge of allowing Colt to possess a weapon. The situation has prompted more scrutiny into parental responsibility in gun ownership.

In the days leading up to the shooting, family members voiced concerns regarding Colt’s behavior. Charlie Polhamus, the suspect’s grandfather, explained that his wife visited the school the day before, attempting to discuss her grandson’s troubling situation with staff.

During the tragic day of the incident, Marcee Gray, Colt’s mother, reached out to the school after receiving a concerning message from her son. According to Annie Brown, the boy’s aunt, Marcee expressed her worries in a text and urged the school to locate Colt swiftly to ensure he was safe.

“She did call the school and told them to act quickly,” Brown shared but opted not to elaborate on further details. This incident reflects a haunting prelude to the tragic events that unfolded, raising questions about warning signs and intervention.

The severity of this tragedy casts a dark shadow over the community, reminding everyone of the critical importance of vigilance regarding potential threats. Ongoing discussions surrounding responsible gun ownership and the role of parents in monitoring their children are bound to escalate as this case unfolds. Discussions will likely focus on prevention strategies to avert future incidents like this one.

As legal proceedings move forward, the grief felt by the affected families and the broader community highlights the urgent need for ongoing dialogue about school safety and mental health resources that could help prevent such a heartbreaking event.
