Step.- The El Paso Police (EPPD) confirmed that the death of a man after an incident on Sunday afternoon, April 14 in the South Central area of El Paso was an “in-custody death.”
The Police Department also said Jonathan Rose Eddens, 35, died during the incident.
The “critical incident,” as the Police Department called it, occurred at 3:15 p.m. in the 3300 block of Alameda. They initially said the man was weaving in and out of traffic and died after being taken to the hospital.
Video recorded by bystanders showed police chasing the man and subduing him to the ground.
The incident is being investigated by the Police Department’s Crimes Against Persons Unit, the Texas Rangers and the Internal Affairs Division.
“The investigation is ongoing and details are limited at this time. We are engaged with transparency and we will provide updates as more information becomes available.
“We appreciate the public’s patience and understanding during this time,” police said in a news release.
