The House of the Dragon cast is a seriously impressive group of actors, and their transformation into the fantasy period drama’s lineage of Kings and Queens, Lords and Ladies, is astounding. Seeing them in their everyday attire is a revelation. Curious to see these transformations? Here’s what the cast of the hit HBO show looks like out of costume.
Bethany Antonia portrays Baela Targaryen, Daemon’s eldest daughter and a fearsome dragon rider. Betrothed to Rhaenyra’s heir, Jacaerys, her character promises great things for the show’s future. Known for her earlier roles in Stay Close and Russell T. Davies’ ITV show Nolly, Bethany’s talent shines through whether in costume or not.
Emma D’Arcy isn’t a usurped Queen in reality, but they certainly know how to serve incredible looks. At the House of the Dragon premiere, the 32-year-old star stole the show in a two-tone suit by Canaku, a far cry from their character Rhaenyra’s black and red war-ready gowns.
Olivia Cooke, known for her roles in Bates Motel and Ready Player One, presents a much more relaxed and happier demeanor compared to her high-strung and often miserable character, Queen Alicent Hightower.
Matt Smith, a natural brunette famous for his role as the Doctor in Doctor Who, is not averse to going blonde. He dyed his hair to play Prince Philip in The Crown and wears a white-haired wig to transform into the anti-hero Daemon in the Game of Thrones spin-off.
Ewan Mitchell’s memorable look as Aemond Targaryen with his fake diamond eye, scar, and long white-blonde locks stands in stark contrast to his real-life appearance. It’s a transformation that indeed makes you do a double-take.
Although Ser Cristen Cole might be one of the least likable characters, there’s no denying that he looks good in his Kingsguard suit. Off-screen, Fabien Frankel looks equally dashing, especially at the House of the Dragon premiere.
Phia Saban, who plays Helaena Targaryen, looks entirely different in real life. Her casual red carpet appearance is a far cry from her character’s on-screen persona, making her nearly unrecognizable.
Steve Toussaint is almost unrecognizable as the power-hungry sailor Corlys Velaryon, although we think his character would suit a pair of shades as seen in his real-life photos.
Freddie Fox, who many might recognize from shows like White House Farm and Slow Horses, has once again transformed for his role in House of the Dragon. Playing Gwayne Hightower, Alicent’s brother, Freddie’s performance hints at an important role in the series’ unfolding drama.
