What’s up with the cicadas in Michigan 2021?

There are two broods of cicadas emerging this year, but Michigan won’t have to deal with them. Brood XIII & Brood XIX will emerge in 2024 in Illinois & Missouri. A few Brood XIII will emerge in southwest Michigan close to Indiana border. Brood X expected in Michigan in 2038. Michigan has 10 species of cicadas that emerge every year, known as “dog day” cicadas. They do not harm humans or pets and lay eggs in woody plants. Periodic cicadas emerge every 11 years and are larger with yellow or orange bodies and red eyes.
