Whoopi Goldberg’s Illness Forces Her to Miss ‘The View’

Fans of The View have been concerned about Whoopi Goldberg’s recent absence from the show’s regular panel. The beloved Sister Act star has been missing for several days, prompting viewers to question whether she was okay. Recent updates have shed some light on Whoopi’s health, explaining her absence from the show.

Apparently, Whoopi Goldberg has been under the weather. She tested positive for COVID-19 and has been recuperating at home. On Thursday, July 11, her fellow co-hosts on The View addressed the situation with the live audience and viewers at home. Joy Behar acknowledged her absence during the live broadcast.

“You might have noticed Whoopi is not here,” Joy stated. “Whoopi has tested positive for COVID. You know, it’s going around still. So you have to be careful!” Sunny Hostin further mentioned that Whoopi had contracted the virus amidst the “summer surge.”

Interestingly, Whoopi Goldberg had been on The View earlier in the week. She even appeared on Thursday’s show through a pre-taped interview with Antony Starr of The Boys. This appearance provided some comfort to fans, knowing she was still somewhat involved despite her illness.

This isn’t Whoopi’s first bout with COVID-19. The 68-year-old talk show host has had the virus multiple times, causing her to miss various tapings of The View. Previous instances include early 2022, again in November that year, and once more in September 2023.

Recently, Whoopi has been busy promoting her new book, Bits and Pieces: My Mother, My Brother, and Me. She discussed this book earlier in the week on Late Night with Seth Meyers, sharing stories about what she did with her mother’s ashes. This topic is also covered in her autobiography.

The View moderator has described the new book as a “love letter” to those who raised her. Her mother, Emma Harris, passed away in 2010 after a stroke, and her brother, Clyde, died in 2015 following a brain aneurysm. Given her COVID diagnosis, it is uncertain when Whoopi will resume her press tours or return to her hosting duties on The View.

For now, it looks like she will be absent from the next few episodes of the show as she focuses on recovery and preventing the virus’s spread. Fans and co-hosts alike hope to see her back at the table soon, sharing her unique perspective and energy.

The View airs weekdays at 11 a.m. EST on ABC. Fans are eagerly awaiting Whoopi’s return and send their best wishes for her quick recovery.
