Wildfires in Canada prompt air quality alerts in four U.S. states

Hazy conditions due to smoke from wildfires in western Canada triggered air quality alerts in four U.S. states. Canada has 146 active wildfires with dozens in British Columbia and Alberta. Alerts were issued in Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Minnesota. The air quality index showed ranges from “moderate” to “unhealthy.” Small particles in the smoke can cause health issues, especially for vulnerable populations. Last year, Canada had a devastating wildfire season, and with conditions ripe for wildfires this year, officials are bracing for increased risks. Climate change is believed to be a key factor in the frequency and intensity of wildfires.
