Following a positive sequel update, there has been a rise in discussion around Jeremy Renner’s involvement in the upcoming King Spawn movie. Recently, director Todd McFarlane revealed the official title for the Spawn sequel and confirmed the script’s completion. Fans are now curious to know whether Renner will play Twitch Williams or be replaced.

In 2018, there were reports of Jeremy Renner being officially cast as Detective Twitch Williams. However, his involvement in King Spawn isn’t yet confirmed due to many changes and delays the movie’s script has faced since its announcement. Recently, Jason Blum took to X to reveal that the upcoming sequel is titled King Spawn and dropped the screenplay’s title page.

Last year, Blum also provided a confident update about the movie releasing sometime in 2025 during an interview with Comic Book. Additionally, he mentioned attaching a director and actor upon the script’s completion. “The update on Spawn is we’re very close to having a script that we’re all gonna feel great about. Once we have that, we’ll attach a director and an actor, and we’re gonna make the movie,” he said. This suggests that there might be changes in the sequel’s casting. Nevertheless, the coming days will likely reveal the official cast for King Spawn.

Spawn (1997) took inspiration from Todd McFarlane’s Image Comics character of the same name. Since its release, McFarlane aimed to create a follow-up sequel, in development for more than two decades. After years of talks, he announced a deal with Blumhouse Production at San Diego Comic-Con in 2017. In the following year, Renner and Jamie Foxx were announced to depict the main characters, Twitch and AI Simons, respectively.

Despite positive developments over the years, Jason Blum provided a disappointing update in 2020. He revealed that the Spawn sequel would ditch the previous script and proceed in a new direction during a conversation with Abu Dhabi Culture.

He explained that they wanted to perfect the script before moving forward. “We’re going to make the movie, definitely. I don’t know when we are going to make the movie. We are actually re-tackling… We’re going down a different direction with the story than we had in the past, but we are not going to make the movie until that script is great. But one of these days, it will be great, and we will make it,” he added. With the script now officially completed, plot and casting details can be expected soon.
