Sneak Peek: Ted Lasso Creator Bill Lawrence’s New Apple TV+ Comedy

Some pairings seem effortlessly perfect, like peanut butter and jelly or Lennon and McCartney. Similarly, the collaboration between Apple TV+ and Bill Lawrence has proven to be exceptional. Lawrence, co-creator of popular shows “Ted Lasso” and “Shrinking,” is back with a new comedy series titled “Bad Monkey,” set to debut later this week on Apple’s streaming platform.

Based on Carl Hiaasen’s 2013 novel, “Bad Monkey” features Vince Vaughn as Andrew Yancy, a former Miami Police Department detective turned health inspector in the Florida Keys. Yancy, a quintessential Florida Man, is determined to return to his old job. He believes solving a murder case, which starts with a human arm discovered by tourists, could be his ticket back.

As Apple puts it, “He realizes that if he can prove murder, he’ll be back in. He just needs to get past a trove of Floridian oddballs and one bad monkey.”

Apple TV+ has shared a sneak peek from the 10-episode series “Bad Monkey.” The show is slated for release on August 14, with the first two episodes dropping simultaneously, followed by weekly releases. Aside from Vaughn, the impressive cast includes Rob Delaney, Michelle Monaghan, Jodie Turner-Smith, and Zach Braff. Lawrence’s daughter, Charlotte, makes her television debut in this series.

Lawrence shared his excitement in an interview with The Independent: “I’ll tell you, the amount of times that I’m on a show and people are like: ‘Hey, Bill, your show could use somebody under the age of 25, who has a million Instagram followers and can reach a different audience than your shows generally do.’ And the straight, selfish businessperson in me is going, ‘My daughter, my daughter, my daughter.’”

“I’m really proud of her, man. As long as people acknowledge this, I would think it would be criminal for me not to want to spend time with and work with her. She’s a rock star. She’s awesome.”

The hype for “Bad Monkey” continues to build, with fans eagerly anticipating the blend of quirky characters and gripping storyline.

Apple TV+ has consistently offered quality content, and the anticipation around “Bad Monkey” suggests it’s poised to be another hit for the streaming service. The collaboration between Apple TV+ and Bill Lawrence appears to be a match made in heaven, delivering compelling narratives and standout performances.

Enthusiasts of Lawrence’s previous works and newcomers alike are likely to find “Bad Monkey” a welcome addition to their watchlist.
