Tom Cruise Jumps into Stade de France at Olympics Closing Ceremony

Tom Cruise made a spectacular entrance at the 2024 Olympics closing ceremony in Paris, descending into the Stade de France via rope. The Top Gun star’s dramatic entrance saw him rappelling down to take possession of the Olympic flag from Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass and gymnast Simone Biles. Following this breathtaking stunt, Cruise concluded his performance by riding off on a motorcycle for a filmed segment.

The stunt had been teased earlier during the Olympics, with Cruise filming in Los Angeles around the iconic Hollywood sign. This act, set in a notable Hollywood location, served as the official handoff from the Paris Olympics to the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles.

Known for his dedication to performing his own stunts, Cruise’s entrance into the stadium was relatively straightforward for him. The actor has previously tackled a range of daring feats, including hanging on the side of an airplane, flying fighter jets, and executing high-altitude, low-opening (HALO) jumps—all while continuing his acting duties.

Cruise reflected on his lifelong passion for stunts at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival. “I had this doll, and you throw it up in the air and a parachute comes down. I played with this thing, and I’d throw it off a tree, and I was like, ‘I really want to do this,'” he shared. “I remember taking the sheets off my bed, and I would tie a rope… and I climbed up to the eave, and I got up to the roof. I looked and my mother was in the kitchen—she had four kids—and I jumped off the roof.”

The Hollywood stunt ended with skateboarder Jagger Eaton in possession of the flag in Los Angeles. Eaton then carried the flag to Venice Beach, where there were closing performances by the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Billie Eilish, and Olympic MVP Snoop Dogg.
