Will Ospreay Hosts a Bizarre AEW Debut Episode of TNT Overdrive

When Warner Brothers Discovery announced a new show, TNT Overdrive, which features members of AEW but isn’t technically an AEW-branded show, fans were intrigued. They wondered how the show would blend the wrestling world with other content. Would it resemble Ridiculousness but with AEW stars like Will Ospreay and Willow Nightingale? Or would it offer something unique that might make it essential viewing for wrestling fans?

The debut episode, hosted by Will Ospreay, known as the "Aerial Assassin," provided some answers. He shared interesting stories over the two-hour show, including an anecdote about beating up a fan who had jumped the rails at an event, and pondering whether he could defeat a bear in physical combat. These entertaining segments were clearly filmed in a short span during a random show, contributing to future episodes featuring other performers like Swerve Strickland and Mariah May.

Surprisingly, Tony Khan also made an appearance, indicating he has a weekly segment where he recaps AEW events, previews upcoming matches, and discusses other AEW-related topics that pique his interest.

Aside from these wrestler-focused segments, the show offered varied content including athletes competing against a bear and true crime stories involving road rage and "redneck games." Instead of rapid-fire YouTube clip style, the show presented several distinct mini-segments, each loosely connected.

So, was the show good? Not really. Is it ‘AEW enough’ to become a must-watch for wrestling fans? Probably not. However, if Tony Khan’s involvement leads to a bigger payday from Warner Brothers Discovery, it’s arguably worth the effort. Spending an hour or so every few weeks to get that check seems like a reasonable trade-off.

Meanwhile, MJF made headlines with a scathing promo after defeating Kyle Fletcher on AEW Dynamite. His target? Will Ospreay, whom he’ll face at All In. He plans to further humiliate Ospreay by defeating another ally, Michael Oku, at RevPro this weekend.

“You see that? That’s the difference between a foreign freak like Will Ospreay and ‘The American Hero’ MJF. I don’t let my brothers-in-arms get hurt like that. I care about my friends; I care about my family. I care about my countrymen. You just watched Kyle Fletcher get absolutely decimated by the greatest champion in the world, the American Champion, ‘The American Hero,’ Maxwell Jacob Friedman. He did the same thing to Daniel Garcia. Didn’t he? Will Ospreay, ‘The best wrestler in the world.’ My American a**. I am, and I have proven it time and time again,” MJF boasted.

“Hechicero, RUSH, one, two, there you go. I could keep on going. I could talk about the guy whose a I just whooped in CMLL, Templario. I could talk about Kyle Fletcher, and soon, I’ll be talking about you, Michael Oku. RevPro, that’s right. August 11th, I am coming to York Hall, and I am going to absolutely decimate another one of Will Ospreay’s little boys. Oku, he loves you. He talks highly of you. He says you’re great. Well, he said the same thing about Fletcher, and look what happened to ‘The Aussie Arrow.’ Boy, it’s gonna take a whole lot more than a fat-a sidepiece walking with you to the ring to give you enough confidence to beat the man. RevPro, Michael Oku, I am going to do what your boy, what your mentor Will Ospreay is incapable of doing. I am going to pull the trigger. I am going to hit you with a Tiger Driver ‘91. I am going to retain my American Championship, and I will do the same at Wembley Stadium, All In, August 25th, against Will Ospreay, ‘The Aerial Assassin.’ Because you can be the feeling all you want, bruv. MJF, ‘The American Hero,’ ain’t nothing but straight facts. For those facts, you can thank me later.”

Although the decision to have Ospreay lose his belt to MJF was controversial, MJF has proven himself as the inaugural "American Champion," defending the title both within and outside AEW. His reign has been eventful, and even if it ends at All In, there’s no denying its impact.
