“Honda will no longer be a car company in 20 years.” It is not said by an analyst, nor by a seer. Says the CEO of the current car manufacturer himself. The Japanese company, which are hands of the engineer Toshihiro Mibe, first it announced that it was going to stop making combustion engines. But the next logical step is neither electric nor hydrogen vehicles, butIno the total abandonment of car manufacturing: Honda is convinced that the future of mobility does not lie in the private car.

The Japanese manager has ensured that, at this time, the company is in the midst of an internal revolution that will make Honda a completely different firm two decades from now.

Honda’s future plan has not been revealed in detail, beyond the statement about its disengagement with the automobile market. Now, according to Mibe, some of the new areas to explore they could be in the aerospace business and telecommunications.

The Honda case would not be the only one of a Japanese brand that it has had to reinvent itself. In the 1990s, Olympus was one of the most important camera brands and today it has become a manufacturer of gastrointestinal endoscopic cameras and medical instruments. A similar case occurs with Toshiba, which stopped selling laptops and music equipment to manufacture semiconductors and wind power plants.

Technological advances will further enhance the car sharing sector. With 400 million people forecast to trust robotic car sharing by 2030, car sharing can only get better.

In a study conducted by IBM, 39% of consumers prefer a carpool model, while 36% would consider carpooling on demand. The study also revealed that 42% of consumers would choose alternative modes of car ownership, such as the monthly subscription price.

These results show that more and more people, and especially millennials, they are willing to carpool with other people instead of owning a personal vehicle.

Consumers should expect car sharing to integrate with electric and autonomous vehicles in the future. It’s even interesting to note that power companies are already gaining interest in the carpooling trend.
