The husband of prominent US politician Nancy Pelosi has been attacked in the couple’s home in San Francisco. According to US media reports, it was a targeted attack on her home. The attacker had shouted in the night to Friday several times “Where is Nancy?”, wrote, among others, the “New York Times” and the “Washington Post”, citing representatives of the authorities.

The 82-year-old Paul Pelosi was in the hospital and is “expected to make a full recovery,” a spokesman said. The chairman of the U.S. House of Representatives, protected by bodyguards, was out of town at the time of the attack.

The San Francisco police initially did not comment on the reports and did not allow questions at a short press conference. Officers had driven around 2.30 a.m. to the home of the Pelosis, said police chief William Scott. When they arrived, the man hit Pelosi with the hammer in front of the police. The attacker is in custody, the motive for the attack is being investigated.

CNN reported that Paul Pelosi had dialed the emergency call on his phone himself. Although he could not report the attack directly, the employee of the emergency hotline heard what was happening in the background and sent the police.

The Democrat Pelosi is a frequent target of verbal attacks by the political right in America. Former President Donald Trump repeatedly calls her “Crazy Nancy”. As Speaker of the House of Representatives, Pelosi is high in the political ranking of the United States.
