The plenary session of the Board of the National Markets and Competition Commission (CNMC) has approved the Appointments of the new Competition and Transport / Postal Directors, who also join the regulator’s management team.
The CNMC has explained in a statement that these appointments have been carried out through public tender. The appointments were made at the proposal of the president, Cani Fernández, replacing Beatriz de Guindos in Competition and José Jaime Bernárdez in Transport, whom he thanked “the excellent work done in recent years.”
Thus, María Luisa Tierno will join the Directorate of Competition on September 1. She has a degree in Law from the Complutense University of Madrid and a master’s degree in European Law from the Free University of Brussels, as reported Europa Press.
Since 2001 she has worked in the Directorate General for Competition of the European Commission, where she was appointed Deputy Head of the Cartel Unit in 2006, and where she has been in charge of investigations and competition matters and has participated in the drafting of legislation. community.
Between 1997 and 2003 she was an official of the Netherlands Competition Authority. She also has experience in the private sector (1992-1997) and is the author of several competing international publications, among other subjects.
For its part, Patricia Cordovilla González will assume the direction of Transport / Postal on October 1. She has a degree in Economic and Business Sciences (E-2) from Icade and a state commercial technician.
Since 2017 she has been a director of Icex Spain Export and Investments. In addition, she is deputy director general of the Technical Secretariat of the Government Delegate Commission of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation (2018).
Previously, she was deputy director general of the Market Unit, Improvement of Regulation and Competition in the Ministry of Economy, Industry and Competitiveness (2016-2018). Between 2011 and 2014 she was an advisory member at the CNMC (Units for the Promotion of Competition and Transport and Postal Services) and previously held positions in the defunct National Competition Commission (CNC) and the Competition Defense Court (TDC), among others.
