WordPress plugin: Website visitors can now log in using the eID procedure

With the new expansion from Ecsec, the eID function is now also available for WordPress. The plug-in is now available free of charge and as open source code. For the users of the corresponding websites, Ecsec provides its SKIDentity service in the standard configuration of the plugin in order to provide an eID connection. WordPress is the market leader in content management systems.

The free plugin is available under the Open source AGPL license on Github ready and able like any other WordPress-Plugin installed, but the identity provider must be configured depending on the service used. SKIDentity is used in the standard settings, but other identity providers can also be integrated.

Anyone who has a German electronic ID card or similar documents and has their account on the relevant website with the eID can log in using this procedure Authentication on the WordPress site have linked. In an earlier order from the BSI, the company had already developed an eID login app for Nextcloud to enable login to a Nextcloud instance using the online ID function of the electronic ID card.
