Yua Mikami’s Early Life
On August 16, 1993, Mikami was born as Momona Kitō in the city of Nagoya. Mikami, who was 13 at the time, was turned down at the first round of auditions for Morning Musume’s 8th generation in 2006.
She made her Team E debut in March 2009 as a member of SKE48’s second generation of idols.
She was demoted to kenkyuusei (intern) status in December 2010. Then in July 2013, an underage drinking/dating controversy leaked out, both of which hurt her career in SKE48. She announced her departure from the group on March 16, 2014, and on April 9, 2014, she gave her final performance with them.
She participated in 8 B-side albums with SKE throughout her career and made a cameo on the B-side song “Ano Hi no Frin” by the sibling group AKB48.
Yua Mikami’s Career
Her debut film, Princess Peach, made by Muteki, a studio specializing in the adult movie debuts of former gravure idols & small celebrities, marked her entry into the adult entertainment sector on June 1, 2015.
Princess Peach, which Mikami had intended to be his sole feature film, ended up being a great success and one of Muteki’s and 2015’s best-selling movies and AVs.
The unexpectedly strong response to her debut inspired Mikami to continue working as a performer. She created her own website on November 12th, 2015.
She also opened accounts on Twitter and Instagram the same day. In a conversation, Mikami said: “I did not seek anyone’s advice before stepping into the AV sector. I must make my own decisions because it is my life.”
Since Mikami was among S1’s “flagship” performers and her movies frequently made the best-seller lists, her popularity only increased. When Fanza researched the Top 10 AV actresses of the year in 2018, Mikami ranked No. 8 for digital downloads and Also no. 5 for physical DVD/Blu-ray sales.
In the “Best Actress” category of the 2017 DMM Adult Awards, Mikami earned her second significant prize. She also gave Shoko Takahashi, a newcomer to AV and a former gravure idol, the “Best New Actress” award.
Given that they both had their acting debuts at Muteki and that they both reside in Nagoya, Mikami and Takahashi grew acquainted and began to perform together in the variety show “SHOW YOUR ROCKETS.” The two starred in their first collaborative AV title, These Two Have No Equal, which was released on December 1, 2018, to commemorate Muteki’s tenth anniversary.
Along with the four-hour movie, there was a two-hour VR-based adult release. It also rose to become the second-best-selling adult film in Japan in 2018.
Yua Mikami’s Life at Music
Mikami remains true to her musical beginnings despite performing largely for adults. She released her lone single, “Ribbon,” on November 22, 2016.
She made her debut in 2018 as a member of the AV idol duo Honey Popcorn, which also included Moko Sakura & Miko Matsuda. Mikami contributed money to the organization as a passion project.
However, the group’s debut turned out to be contentious because the members’ occupations went against the “clean” image ascribed to Korean idols.
Due to the uproar, the group was compelled to postpone its first performance, and a petition calling for the group’s banning was delivered to the Blue House with more than 50,000 signatures. Matsuda departed Honey Popcorn in December 2018 due to the harsh criticism. Still, Mikami brought the group back with three new members, and in July 2019, they launched their second EP, De-aeseohsta.
The new music video for Malaysian singer-songwriter Namewee, “I Shot You” (Chinese: 不小心), included Mikami as a guest star on June 27, 2020. 1.4 million people watched the video in less than a day.
